Wednesday 13th April – bike **** – Around Felixstowe including lunch by
the River Deben – sunny periods.
Another lovely day here on the coast in Felixstowe mild with sunny periods
and with light winds you could forget about windsurfing and enjoy the day.
We had the usual relaxing morning at home, me doing my exercises in the
back garden while Mag repots her many varieties of tomatoes, the seeds she
collected from the different coloured tomatoes bought from Lidl with have
been growing in our share bedrooms, I have never seen so seedlings, she is
an absolute star, her fingers are so green:) Despite it clouding over we
decided to head out on our bikes for a picnic lunch by the River Deben at
Felixstowe Ferry. I made a couple of yummy rolls with lashings of salted
butter and we left home around 1.30. Being Easter holiday half term there
is a fair on the seafront near the pier so we thought it best to avoid the
prom so headed inland, through the woods at The Grove and out onto Gulpher
Road stopping to say hello to the calves before whizzing done Marsh Lane
passing a lovely rape field in full bloom, always worth stopping to take a
few pics:) The swans are once again on Kings Fleet and the nearby wheat
field and then up onto the Deben path into a bit of a head wind, it had
picked up as several black clouds were passing, our fingers crossed the
rain stayed away! I make a small detour around the boat yard at the ferry
as the rowers were about to set off down river, I meet up again with Mag by
the jetty who is speaking to fellow local photographer Alan Boyle out on
his new electric bike. After a chat we head to our picnic spot on the mouth
of the Deben which is sheltered from the breeze. The currants have removed
a large section of beach and with the water level low we sit and enjoy
lunch with some amazing clouds passing overhead and which the rowers do a
slow circuit of the shingle bank. Well rested we continue past the golf
course to the Dip and walk up the windy way and around to the Fludgers and
along the prom to Bent Hill which thankfully is nice and quiet:) Home for
cake and a cuppa and was pleased to see that Aisling had used a pic of
bluebells at The Spa, the first one for a couple of weeks, that’s a pic
on the TV every month since January last year:) With the run of good
weather with little wind it might give us a chance to head to Orwell County
Park to see the Bluebell wood for another picnic by the Orwell!
